A tasty book about type, not a flat wor(l)d.

On the day the book arrived, flipping through the book, was a visual orgy, so many fonts, illustrations, colors, and the smell of new book... inky ;)

A little confused?... no, it was enough to start reading and was flowing. The english is straight, I am portuguese native speaker, put the concepts into place, start watching what not see, systematize/organize, and discover new frontiers. I am a non professional user of fonts, which began to wake up to them in the late 80's, when I started to work with computers. It was love at first sight, which still remains.

To me, the book's core is chapter 9, everything revolves around it, and makes it a partner of reference, which will always be next to the Portuguese Dictionary. The chapters are short and concise, with practical examples (Type Safari is a must). The challenging and updated notes sharpened my curiosity.

Only started understanding the book title starting the chapter 11 (the word taster did not appeal to the sense of sight), and surprisingly, or not, the book ends with a back to basics: eat and talk about fonts, after all fonts are part of our lives.

Worked pages of my book (underlined, annotated and scribbled with pencil 5B).

A book that is not "serious", but it is to take seriously.

Inky, chunky, vivid, juicy and eureka!... my five senses about the book, in order of arrival, since first contact: smell, touch, sight, taste and hearing (my joy in the enlightenment).

Congratulations Sarah.
